The new phone didn’t work which meant days of “live chatting” with people whose first language is not English. Then, hours of internet researching on how to use a windows based phone instead of android.
Then discovering that my favorite two apps are not compatible with the new phone----spin out. On top of that hours at the phone store trying to copy my contacts onto my new phone----all in all 4 days gone and not productive---or, so I thought
What I learned was I would spin out, follow instructions, see them not work, go back, regroup, spin out, blow up energy, and always return to gratitude for not being “that nasty or impatient with the customer service people.” The phone worked but then the texting wouldn’t and then…. then… well, by then I was talking to people whom I could barely understand for more than one reason----the irritation was mounting.
I noticed even when I had to tell my friend that I might have to return the phone I, also, wanted my friend to know I was deeply grateful for the phone and all I was learning through the experience.
The gift in the gift was seeing how each time I truly desired to return to serenity---no matter what. I kept watching my irritation and asking how I could turn it around. I turned the “thanks BUT” into a “THANKS AND…”
What will you do when irritation and the “thanks buts” attack---and they will?
